Trying out Online Dating on Dating Sites

Reader Post: Online dating can be a challenging experience. Although there are many dating sites available today, finding one that I liked was a chore.
I am recently divorced, have two girls, and am a stay at home mom. Although I have lived in the same small town my whole life, there is no one here that I wish to date. Since I am not able to get out much, I find it hard to find potential dates. A few months ago, I decided to sign up for a dating site to see what online dating was like.
I did not want to invest any money, so I signed up for one of the free online dating sites. At first, I had trouble finding any potential dates, which was very discouraging. I thought for sure that there would be at least someone that would interest me. Instead, all I got were a bunch of messages from men that I would not ever date. I did have a few conversations that went well, and ended up going out on a date with a nice man. Since it was difficult for me to find a babysitter, my opportunities to go out were limited. Still, I really tried to make time because he and I had a good connection.
We dated online for about 2 months before we both figured out that it was not going to work. He wanted to see me all the time and this was not something that I could do. He said he could come to my house, but I was not ready to have him meet my children. In the end, we parted ways because of this. Overall, my experience with online dating was positive; I just was not able to find the right man on this occasion.
