Sexual Fetishes

Sexual fetishes refer to a sexual fascination for a specific body part or object.

The word fetish originally stems from the medieval Portuguese word feitica, which refers to religious relics with magical properties. The term only took on a sexual meaning in the 19th century. Today, people are called fetishists if they become turned on by objects that are not usually associated with desire. It can be anything from stiletto heels to obesity to nappies. The Internet has a broad range of fetish sites.

Here are a few of the more general sexual fetishes:

Footwear

Shoes (and indeed feet themselves) have vast potential to arouse fethishists that are so inclined. Some prefer shoes on somebody's feet, while others use them to masturbate into. Those who are into sadomasochism find stiletto and spike heels arousing because it can be used to inflict pain.

Underwear

Underwear is admired and even collected by fethishists for a variety of reasons. It can be kept as keepsakes or a trophy; and used or 'soiled' underwear are popular to sniff whilst masturbating. 'Super-soiled' underwear sells online for surprising amounts of money.

Leather, latex and rubber

These fetishes are based on the feel of the materials. Fethishists wear anything from rubber and latex skirts, suits, hoods, gasmasks and shoes. Black tends to be the preferred color of these garments. The feel and smell of leather is said to give people a feeling of power. Some fetishists report that wearing skin-tight materials makes them feel as if they're taking on the identity of different animals.

Sexual fetishes are not everybody's cup of tea, but it's good to be informed. You never know when you might meet a potential sex partner with sex fetishes. If you are able to recognize it and discuss it openly, you can make an informed decision about partaking - or not.

My advice is to know yourself and your boundaries. You should never be forced to do anything that makes you feel uncomfortable. On the other hand, if you are a fetishist yourself, make sure that your sexual partners feel comfortable with experimentation.
