Have you ever considered giving yourself the Gift of your Dreams?

Imagine me, a therapist by profession, with absolutely zero web designing skills, and I’m starting my second online business. What’s more, I’m loving every moment of it. So how did this happen, you may wonder. Let me share my story with you.

My Story

But all this time, deep inside my heart, I knew there was something I loved more than consulting. That something is writing. I love to create on paper. I love to see an idea take shape and form itself into something that others can read and use.

Through the years I wrote and wrote and wrote – with variable degrees of success. I’ve had a few textbooks published in South Africa (boring stuff!); I freelanced for women’s magazines for some years and acted on a panel of experts to advise mums on parenting matters; I wrote two pocket-sized books for women in Afrikaans, my home language; I entered a national children’s story book competition in South Africa and won; I’ve created short stories and poems which are scattered over notebooks all over my house. And then…. and then….

I Discovered SBI

I’ve learnt that it’s one thing to build a site; it’s an entirely different story to keep motivated to build quality content, attract traffic, build a relationship with your potential buyers and then make enough money to ditch your day job. But you know what? It’s doable.

SBI has given me a platform to write to my heart’s content. I don’t have to wait weeks to hear back from an editor about getting an article approved for publication. I don’t have to wait months to see a book in print. Building a web page is instant gratification. I choose the words, the graphics, the flow of the whole thing. It’s true magic!

These days my laptop sleeps by my feet on the bed like a faithful dog. By the time I get to the office, I’ve already done two or three hours of writing. I still consult part-time, because that’s just what I do, but every spare second I have goes into building my sites.

And you know what? I’m just happy.

A Step-by-step process

2. Persistence:

Forget all the get-rich-quick schemes you’ve ever heard about and understand that building a site, like building any worthwhile business, is a lot of hard work. It doesn’t happen overnight. Prepare yourself to be in it for the long haul. But believe me, there’s nothing more exciting than seeing your website develop and your traffic figures grow, all the while knowing that you’re doing exactly what you love!

3. Process

SBI takes a process that could easily be overwhelming for the sheer magnitude of it, breaks it down into digestible steps and gives you all the tools, tips and techniques you could ever need (and more!) to:

a. Fully research your topic and find your niche;

b. Register a domain name;

c. Choose the look-and-feel of your website with a wide variety of templates;

d. Develop your content with a simple but effective block-builder process (which is exactly what I’m doing here);

e. Submit your site to the search engines;

f. Build traffic;

g. Nurture a relationship with your readers to get them into a buying mood;

h. Monetise your efforts and grow your own bank balance.

4. Support:

SBI is so much more than a web-hosting company: it’s a community. In the forums you’ll find a spirit of ‘paying it forward.’ As soon as you introduce yourself, you’ll be warmly welcomed and encouraged to ask as many questions as you need. Old hands give advice to newbies on all possible aspects of building a site and so the village grows!
